The one-year certificate program is designed to provide the community with graduates who, after receiving licensure and under the guidance of a registered nurse or licensed physician/dentist, provide therapeutic, rehabilitative and preventative care for people of all ages and diverse cultures in various stages of dependency. The practical nurse takes care of patients in extended care and in other non-acute care settings. Graduates of the program are eligible to apply for licensure after successful completion of the National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Employment opportunities for licensed practical nurses include staff positions in long-term care facilities, doctors’ offices, correctional facilities, clinics, schools and other structured health care settings.
