PHYS181: Astronomy: Solar System

This course provides a basic overview of the properties of the planets, satellites, and minor members of the solar system. Students will become familiar the night sky, astronomical instruments/measurements, and a broad brush of astronomical topics focused on planetary phenomena. Students will be able to demonstrate scientific and quantitative reasoning, including the ability to apply generally accepted processes of mathematical and scientific inquiry in addressing problems. Students are required to have some knowledge of basic algebra for this course. Prior knowledge of astronomy is not required for this course. This course is part of the DELL General Education Program and meets the general education scientific literacy requirement. A lab fee is required.
