Survey of American literature to 1865 emphasizing connections among representative works. Authors/Works may include accounts of Native American narratives, Anne Bradstreet, Jonathan Edwards, Benjamin Franklin, Washington Irving, Charles Brockden Brown, Emily Dickinson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allen Poe, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Frederick Douglass, James and Susan Fenimore Cooper, Walt Whitman, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and others.
