ENGL423: ROMANTIC MOVEMENT IN BRITAIN
A study of the literature written in Britain between 1770-1830, focusing on how the literary experiments and innovations of poets like Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Percy Shelley, Keats, Burns, and Barbauld, and of novelists like Mary Shelley, Radcliffe, and Scott interacted with cultural changes such as the Industrial Revolution, the French Revolution, and the emergence of feminism and working-class radicalism. Prerequisites: One 300-level English course or permission of instructor and a grade of C or better in in one of the following: ENGL 211C, ENGL 221C, or ENGL 231C.
